Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Northridge Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning

DuraFlex repair in Northridge is independent service we provide for stainless steel liner systems that many local homes rely on after decades of masonry flue deterioration. We’re Chimney Sweep Northridge, and we work on DuraFlex flexible liners, reline kits, top plates, and rain caps regularly across the San Fernando Valley, including hundreds of Northridge ranchers and tract homes built between the 1950s and 1970s. We’re not affiliated with, authorized by, or sponsored by DuraFlex. What we are is an independent chimney service that sees how these liners actually age, corrode, and accumulate creosote in real Northridge conditions, and we clean and repair them accordingly. Why Trust Chimney Sweep Northridge for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?

DuraFlex systems demand a specific kind of attention. A flexible stainless liner isn’t the same animal as a clay tile flue, and treating it like one means leaving creosote packed in the corrugations and missing early signs of wrap failure. Our technicians size rotary heads to the exact diameter of each DuraFlex liner before starting, because generic brushes snag on the corrugated wall and skip the valleys where creosote hardens first. We see the failure points up close, torn insulation wrap near top plates, corroded clamps, cap assemblies that have loosened over years of San Fernando Valley heat, and we know which ones are safe to clean and which need parts before the next fire. Norm Callaway grew up in Reseda, just south of North Hills West, and learned combustion and ventilation systems through the HVAC program at Los Angeles Pierce College. He’s been on rooftops in this exact area for almost two decades, and that local experience means he knows what Northridge chimneys looked like after the 1994 earthquake and what they look like now. A clean flue doesn’t need selling, it just needs doing right.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Northridge

  • Torn or degraded insulation wrap on DuraFlex Pro flexible liners. We open top plates and find the wrap has torn during a previous install or deteriorated from years of heat cycling. That leaves hot spots against the chase or masonry and reduces the clearance protection the wrap was designed to provide. We document it with a camera, then replace the wrap section or recommend a reline if the damage is extensive.
  • Corroded or loosened top plate and rain cap assemblies. Northridge summers bake rooftop hardware, and the winter rains do the rest. The clamps that hold DuraFlex top plates and Deluxe Rain Cap assemblies in place corrode, loosen, or shear, letting water and debris drop straight into the flue. We replace the corroded components with OEM-matching parts and seal the top plate correctly against the crown.
  • Glazed creosote packed into the corrugated inner wall. Flexible liners have ridges that a flat wire brush simply rides over. After months of disuse, especially through a hot San Fernando Valley summer, creosote hardens into a glazed layer that’s both a chimney fire risk and an airflow restriction. We use a poly rotary head sized to the liner to break it up without gouging the stainless wall.
  • Failed damper and cap hardware on DuraFlex reline terminations. The damper plate or cap hinge on a reline kit seizes up or rusts through after a few valley winters. That causes downdraft, water intrusion, and, more often than you’d think, birds or rodents getting into the firebox. We free or replace the hardware and make sure the cap actually closes off the flue when the fireplace is cold.
  • Crushed or kinked liner sections from roof work or earthquake-era repairs. Northridge has a lot of chimneys that were patched after the 1994 quake without permits or inspection. We regularly find DuraFlex liners that were ovaled, kinked, or partially crushed during those repairs, which creates a restriction nobody saw until smoke started rolling back into the living room. When we find that, we’re honest: cleaning won’t fix a crushed liner. Relining will.

DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We match DuraFlex OEM components to the liner that’s already in the chase whenever that’s the right move: top plates, Deluxe Rain Cap assemblies, connectors, and insulation wrap. OEM keeps the system consistent, which matters for warranty coverage and long-term performance. But we won’t push OEM when a quality aftermarket cap or damper does the same job for less and the original part was never under warranty anyway. The decision comes down to what the camera shows us and what you’re actually trying to fix. If a top plate is corroded, we replace the top plate. If a liner is crushed, kinked, or the wrap is burned through, we tell you straight that patching won’t restore the draft. Relining beats patching in that situation, and we’d rather explain that than sell you a sweep that leaves you with the same smoky fireplace. Call (833) 589-9223 for a straight answer on what your DuraFlex system actually needs.

Our DuraFlex Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We run a camera down the full length of the DuraFlex liner, checking the corrugated wall for glazed creosote, the wrap for tears or burn-through, the top plate seal, and the cap hardware. We look at the firebox and smoke chamber too, because reline systems fail at the terminations more often than anywhere else.
  2. 2
Repair or cleaning. We rotary-sweep with a poly head sized to the exact liner diameter, clear the firebox and smoke chamber, and replace any corroded top plates, rain caps, or connectors. We also do Level 2 inspections on relined systems before any major repair, because the liner isn’t the only thing that matters, the structure around it does too.
  3. 3
Test. After service, we check the draft with the damper open and closed, verify the cap seals, and run the camera once more to confirm the liner wall is clean and the wrap is intact.
  4. 4
Warranty. Parts installed by us carry the manufacturer’s warranty where applicable, and our workmanship is documented with before-and-after photos. When a DuraFlex component fails prematurely, we handle the warranty process so you’re not chasing paperwork.

DuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Northridge

We service and install the full range of DuraFlex components you’re likely to find in a Northridge home. That includes the DuraFlex Stainless Steel Flexible Chimney Liner in round, single-wall configurations, the DuraFlex Pro liner with insulation wrap kits, DuraFlex Reline Kits for masonry fireplace conversions, and the Top Plate and Deluxe Rain Cap assemblies that finish the system. We stock common top plates, caps, and connectors locally for faster turnaround on repair work, and we order liner sections to spec when a full reline is needed. We also work with HeatShield flue resurfacing and Gelco components when a different material or repair method fits the job better, which means you get one technician who can give an honest answer across the brands instead of a single-brand pitch.

We Also Service These Brands

Our DuraFlex in Winnetka repair bench isn’t limited to DuraFlex. We work with HeatShield resurfacing systems for flue restoration when a liner is compromised but full replacement isn’t necessary yet, and we stock and install Gelco caps and components. If your chimney has mixed-brand parts, which is common in Northridge after years of piecemeal repairs, we’ll recognize what’s there and work with it.
